Monday, November 10, 2014 Microsoft has released refreshed versions of its popular office software apps for iPhone and iPad. The company is reportedly also working on new versions for Android devices. However the update for Android is not yet ready for release. Knowing the fact that the majority of professionals use smartphones and tablets along with or in place of PCs, Microsoft has made efforts to bring all the essentials apps to handy devices.

Michael Atella, director of Microsoft Office apps said that the user wants similar capabilities on all their devices. Microsoft was working since last two years to develop web-based versions of its software and apps, for making it easy for them to function on smaller screens including that of mobile or tablets.

As of now, the list of free updates includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint and also the replacement of limited iPhone version which was released back in March. The older version in comparison to the newer one only allowed the user to view files and make simple editing changes whereas the newer version is capable of performing more functions, almost all that is found in desktop version of office software. The newer app doesn’t even require a subscription to create files and documents unlike the iPad version.

Since the apps are available for free, Microsoft has made the provision for money via premium features like security tools for business users, through its Office 365 subscription service. The MS office software is used by businesses around the globe, but it faces a strong competition from different programs made by Google, App and other rivals.
