In recent events, US Justice Department has charged CEO of StealthGenie
for violating federal laws against user’s privacy. The government has
arrested the CEO of StealthGenie. The apps created by StealthGenie have
security backdoor, which is used for spying, stalking and hacking user’s
personal data. We have listed 10 apps that are used for spying on you.

1. Winky
Winky is specially designed for Google Glass.
This app enables Google Glass to take pictures with just a blink of
eyes. Users can discretely click pictures and videos of those around
them using Winky. Without this app, users either need to press button or
give voice command to take picture using Glass.
2. NameTag Facial Recognition
This
is another controversial app for Google Glass. NameTag uses face
recognition technology to search the same person’s photo across number
of social networking sites. The app searches database from dating sites,
multiple social networking sites, criminal database and even National
Sex Offender Registry. Google quickly banned the app from PlayStore.
Facial recognition apps violate Glass developer policy. But developers
have ported the app on Glass competitor platforms.
3. Trick or Tracker
This
app is used to keep track of kids whereabouts during Halloween. But,
people have found using this app even on non-festive days. An app can be
installed on both parent’s and child’s phone and it keeps track of
child’s smartphone using GPS. It can even be customised to automatically
send SMS of child’s location on time intervals.
4. Girls Around Me
This
app uses database of Foursquare and Facebook location share to give
other users' information about user’s profile around them. This app has
never taken authorization from Foursquare or Facebook to use database.
The app violates Foursquare’s API policy. Apple has banned the app from
App Store.
5. Mobile Spy
This app was designed for
the users to monitor all the mobile devices that they own. The app
automatically gets activated on every reboot. Mobile spy users can even
activate microphone remotely to listen to the conversation. It can track
the location of the device. The app is still available for Android,
iOS, Mac, Blackberry and PC.
6. How to Spy Guide
This
app gives step by step process for noob users to spy and track mobile
devices. The app contains tutorials to spy text, email messages, find
hidden passwords and how to use spyware and keyloggers.
7. Recognizr
This
app based on Augmented Reality is developed by The Astonishing Tribe
can create 3D model of a person from the person’s photograph. This app
can also search match of the person on social networks. The app is
available only on Blackberry. Research in Motion acquired the developer
company in 2010.
8. Background Check
The app uses
database from social networks to find personal information about
strangers. The app provides one free background check per month and then
it charges for each background check. The description says that, it is
designed to make users their own detectives.
9. TopSpyApp
This
app claims to monitor conversations on messaging services like
Whatsapp, Facebook messenger, Skype, Viber etc. The app is available on
iOS, Android and Blackberry. It is another spyware that violates user’s
privacy.
10. StealthGenie
This app started the
entire controversy of spyware apps. StealthGenie users can activate
device’s microphone within 15-foot radius of the device. It can monitor
texts, emails and voicemails. The app can also be used to access
photographs, videos, contacts of other devices.
