Thursday, October 30, 2014 The unclassified computer network in the White House has reportedly been attacked by hackers and the cyber criminals have breached data in the network, as declared by a US official on Tuesday. Some services were temporarily disrupted as cyber-security teams have been looking into the intrusion. White House officials reported, on condition of anonymity, that none of the systems has been damaged as of now and there is still no evidence of a hack of the classified network. An official said that the concern was found with the unclassified executive office of the President network. Immediate measures were taken to control the situation and that's why some services were disrupted. The attacks have taken place in recent weeks, reported the Washington Post quoting some sources from the White House itself.

The official also said in his statement to the Post that the EOP receives continuous alerts for possible cyber-threats. An investigation is going on into the incident by FBI, Secret Service and National Security Agency. Sources of the Post reported that the breach was discovered two to three weeks ago and immediately staff were asked to change passwords, while Intranet and VPN access were shut down temporarily. The officials also said that this intrusion was not very unexpected.
