Wednesday, November 12, 2014 According to the latest report from FireEye cybersecurity company, hackers have found a new way to hack in iOS devices. Even though there’s no reported incident of the vulnerability, the new vulnerability method that hackers are using can infect all iOS devices in no time. Hackers send text messages, web pages and emails to lure the user to download fake apps, these apps have functionality to leak the user data.

The fake apps are designed similar to genuine pre-installed ones including that of mail and calendar apps but these apps replace the genuine native apps without user’s acknowledgment. These apps can access the personal information and send it back to hackers without user even noticing it. In terms of data breach, this is called as ‘Masque Attack.’ According to the report, all devices running iOS v7 or later can be affected by this vulnerability.

This is the second report of vulnerability in Apple iOS in this month. Last week, Palo Alto Networks had reported similar attack named ‘WireLurker’, which targeted iPhone users in China. Apple is working on a fix for WireLurker. FireEye has sent the detailed report to Apple in July after the announcement of iOS8. Company recommends users to download and install apps only from the trusted source.
